Allow North Concession Students to Attend Balaclava in Carlisle

If students currently slated to attend Flamborough Centre are given the opportunity to head north to Balaclava, it could help make room for students at FC.

    Traffic concerns

Centre Road is a busy street at pickup and dropoff. Bus lanes are currently at max capacity so adding more busses would create a dangerous backlog on Centre Road. Traffic is often re-routed down Centre Road from Hwy 6 due to accidents and in winter. A traffic analysis and assessment must be done to ensure the safety of all students.

    Well water

The well water at FC is often undrinkable for the current student population. Sinks are low flow rate for hand washing and sanitation. An investigation into maintenance and possible upgrade of the school's water supply is in order.

    Sewage Concern

Will the HWDSB commit to initiating an Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) for Flamborough Centre's septic system? This influx of students and new teachers will put the current system under extreme strain. Once a property has a sewage flow of over 10,000 L/day, an ECA is required from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. With the projected 442 students alone (no staff yet), the flow would be 13,260 L/day. This should automatically trigger an ECA. The board was not able to produce any maintenance records for the septic system at FC.

    Grandfather in family members

All families who already have kids at Mary Hopkins regardless of FI or English track should have younger siblings grandfathered in. Allow others in English currently at Mary Hopkins and in the new subdivision choose if they wish to voluntarily attend Flamborough Centre in 2024/25.
