The work of the Advisory Committee is now complete. Staff will pull all of the feedback and Advisory Panel work together and provide a final report and recommendation to the Trustee Finance & Facilities Committee on January 28th. The board meeting for final approval is February 10th.

In the fall of 2024, East Hamilton/Lower Stoney Creek boundaries will be reviewed in accordance with the 2024-2025 Accommodation Strategy Schedule. This review will consider Eastdale's boundaries in association with boundaries at Collegiate, Lake Avenue, South Meadow and Winona elementary schools.

A boundary review is a public review process undertaken to create or modify the boundary of one or more schools. A boundary may require modification due to new school construction, balancing enrolments and/or program changes.

The East Hamilton/Lower Stoney Creek Boundary Review was first announced at the May 21 Finance and Facilities Meeting. The Board of Trustees approved it to move forward in the fall at their June 10th Board Meeting.

Due to accommodation pressures at Eastdale resulting from continued growth in English and French programs, this boundary review aims to better balance enrolments at local schools and reduce reliance on temporary accommodation. Here are some questions that staff will consider during this East Hamilton/Lower Stoney Creek Boundary Review:

  • What is the current and projected future enrolment?
  • What is the condition of the schools?
  • Have the schools been involved in another recent boundary change?
  • What is the community support for a boundary change?
  • Are there irregularities that require correction?
  • Will a boundary change affect other schools or programs at the elementary/secondary level?
  • What policies or procedures are in place to guide the boundary change?

East Hamilton/Lower Stoney Creek families will receive an update in fall 2024 when more information is available. Future steps involve a series of Advisory Panel and public meetings before a final decision is approved by the Board of Trustees.
