Update: We have engaged a group of students to assist us in drafting new guidelines that students, staff and families can easily understand.
Student dress guidelines are important to get right so that we can provide a learning environment that is safe, equitable, welcoming and inclusive. Students have a right to express themselves and we believe this is important to their well-being and health.
On October 18th 2022, HWDSB Trustees passed a motion to develop Student Dress Guidelines at the system level, meaning that individual schools will no longer have their own dress codes. The new Student Dress Guidelines for all schools will use the principles of anti-oppression, anti-racism, equity and inclusion.
Right now, HWDSB has a temporary version of Student Dress Guidelines that is in place until this consultation is complete.
There are multiple ways you can participate in this consultation. See the quick polls, the "ideas" board and the new "comments" tool that lets you put comments directly in the temporary Student Dress Guidelines document.
